Return to third person

Danny opened his eyes.

He had not expected to dream.

Lilith sighed sadly, thinking about Her son. She had taken his dream, but unexpectedly, some of Hers mingled with it and fell back onto him. He had experienced a nightmare. What it was, She did not know. She knew better than to ask.

Danny looked at his Mother. She was still there. He wasn't dreaming anymore. He clung to Her. "I want to dream," he whispered, knowing She knew. "Even with You."

He then added, as an afterthought... "I can make Your bad dreams good."

Sudden warmth filled Lilith's heart. Such warmth... and a voice She had long ago forgotten now echoed straight and true.

"You have a soul. And it's going to heaven."

She drew strength from Danny, slowly and languorously, until he was asleep once more. 'I've taken from you, and given to you My possessions and My children. But I gave you nothing of Myself, because I believed I had nothing to give. But now I know...

I have a soul. And it belongs to you, My Danny. Forever.
